The scale of data, as a game and a quiz

Sizing lives on a feel for magnitudes that almost nobody has. These two are for getting it. Both use the numbers Logcaliper itself uses, so a day of firewall logs is the same day here as in the app.

Threshold

Data sizes fall from the top and you sort each one against a line: more than a gigabyte? More than a Blu-ray? More than a day of one firewall's logs? Three lives, and every miss shows the real number.

The quiz

Ten questions, one minute. Each asks which of two things holds more data: Wikipedia or Fortnite, a gram of DNA or the Internet Archive. Most people are off by orders of magnitude. A new ten every day.

The serious side is next door: the measured event sizes and the profiler.
